As part of the Una Europa alliance, of which Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne is a member, eight universities have joined forces to offer an innovative joint Bachelor in Sustainability (BASUS).
BASUS students will have the opportunity to study on the campuses of three of Europe's leading universities and will receive a single joint degree at the end of their course.
After a first year at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow, they will choose a speciality track (see "Programme" below) and study at one of the partner degree-granting universities: Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, Universidad Complutense de Madrid, University of Helsinki, University of Zurich, KU Leuven and the Jagiellonian University in Krakow. The Freie Universität in Berlin and the University of Edinburgh are adding further mobility opportunities for these students.
The programme will be conducted entirely in English, with the possibility of taking language courses and classes taught in foreign language depending on the place of study. Students on the ‘Economics and Geography’ track, offered at the University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, will be able to choose elective courses in French.
The Jagiellonian University of Krakow is hosting weekly Q&A sessions online to address the candidates' questions :

Programme
The programme is organised over a 3-year period (180 ECTS), divided into 6 semesters.
The 1st year will take place at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow (Poland), which coordinates the programme. The 180 selected students will follow an introductory core course to all the specialised tracks, enabling them to acquire a variety of disciplinary bases (economics, physics, law, management, etc.) and to grasp the concepts linked to sustainable development in their entirety. At the end of the first year, students will choose a bi-disciplinary track.
6 speciality tracks :
o Sustainable Development Law and Policy, Jagiellonian University of Krakow
o Environmental and Life Sciences, Universidad Complutense de Madrid
o Physics and Chemistry, University of Helsinki
o Economics, Management and Engineering Sciences, KU Leuven
o Economics and Geography, Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne
o Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Zurich
The second year and the first semester of the third year will take place at the university offering the chosen speciality track (30 students per track). Students will continue to explore the challenges of sustainable development through the lens of the selected disciplines, while acquiring the key theories of these disciplines and developing their cross-disciplinary skills (languages, methods, interpersonal skills and know-how).
After these three semesters of specialisation, students will have the opportunity to move to one of the eight universities associated with the programme - although this final semester is entirely optional. During this semester, students will write a Bachelor's thesis.
The ‘Economics and Geography’ track at Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne
This track, co-developed by the departments of Economics and Geography, will include fundamental courses in economics (microeconomics, macroeconomics) and geography (human and physical), applied to the concepts of sustainability and development. It will also offer thematic courses on various Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): poverty, health, education, agriculture, climate change, energy, sustainable cities, life on land and under water, etc.
Urban planning, rural development, the inclusion of local, regional, continental and international environmental, social and economic contexts, and numerical methods and techniques in economics and geography for quantifying, qualifying and building scenarios of possible futures are some examples of skills that could help students contribute to the adaptation of societies towards more sustainable ways of living, and to think critically about what underpins the concepts of sustainability, development and sustainable development in the fields of economics and geography.
At the end of the 'Economics-Geography' track, students will be able to:
1) Use modern analytical tools to analyse economic and social issues and their effects on sustainability.
2) Use statistical/geospatial data and econometric methods for impact assessment.
3) Identify spatial and temporal patterns in urban/rural systems and take a critical view of their sustainability.
4) Accessing, programming, processing and interpreting geodata and economic information and indicators, making the results accessible to all, in particular to stakeholders and institutions.
5) With field skills and access to techniques from the human and natural sciences, empirically and experimentally diagnose issues relating to the sustainable development of an area (and its place in macro/microeconomics, its place in the region/country/continent).
6) Obtain a multi-scalar and systemic vision of sustainable development for agro-ecosystems and urban ecosystems, as well as general solutions for tackling global, regional and local issues relating to sustainable development.
